Massage Benefits

Besides being a treat for your whole body,
massage has profound therapeutic benefits:

  • Relaxation
  • Relief for aching muscles
  • Speed natural healing processes
  • Improve kinesthetic awareness
  • Detoxify your muscles and organs
  • Awaken innate energy

Swedish & Deep Tissue Massage
Swedish massage is a set of techniques developed to treat muscles and other soft tissue in the body. The therapist uses cream or oils and works directly on your skin. You will be unclothed and discreetly draped with a sheet over the areas that the therapist is not directly working on.

In a one hour massage, the therapist can work on your whole body. If you want extra attention on a particular area (back, shoulders, legs) you may want to book one-and-a-half or two hours. You can ask your therapist to work with more or less pressure as you prefer. They are there to work with you.

Deep tissue work doesn't mean "hard," but that the therapist is working with the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue in your body. This is especially good for breaking up underlying scar tissue from old injuries and relieving stress from the deeper layers of muscle.

Shiatsu

Shi-atsu
means "finger pressure" in Japanese. In fact, the therapist often uses his or her palms, elbows, forearms, knees, and even feet to apply pressure to therapeutic points all over your body. They will also incorporate assisted stretching to major muscle groups in the body. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, lines of energy called meridians course through the body, circulating energy to all the organs and structures, just as the circulatory system moves the blood.

This energy can become stagnant, too weak or too strong in specific areas or along a meridian. The therapist works with any physical symptoms (pain, swelling, lack of circulation) as well as the underlying causes that may be the root of these discomforts to bring your whole being to a state of improved health.

Traditionally, Shiatsu is done on a mat with the client wearing comfortable clothes. Many of our therapists will do a "combination" session or "Table Shiatsu" : Swedish Massage techniques with Shiatsu pressure and stretches.

Thai Massage

Thai Massage is a traditional form of bodywork that uses pressure point treatment similar to Shiatsu: stimulating and balancing the lines (in Thai called Sen) which are the conduits of energy in the body. The practitioner combines this with lots of yoga stretches which lengthen the muscles, relieve pressure in the joints, assist in relaxation, and facilitate deep breathing and meditation for a whole-body therapeutic treatment.

Thai Massage is always done clothed, on a mat, so bring comfortable clothing your body can move in. Traditionally, sessions last as long as 3 hours or more. We recommend at least one-and-a-half hours for a Thai Massage. Remember, if you buy a package, you can use the credit in flexible increments for sessions of any length.
