PILATES HISTORY
Begun as a rehabilitation and conditioning regimen
by Joseph Pilates in England during World War I, The Pilates Method was
an evolution in physical education. Joseph Pilates moved to New York City
in 1928 and for the next 5 decades developed his methodology and created
specialized equipment for instruction, based on German calisthenics, yoga,
boxing, and his own intuitive understanding of fitness. Joseph Pilates
was a pioneer in holistic physical education: using principles that improve
the coordination, flexibility, and strength of the entire body. |

BENEFITS
Central to Pilates is awakening the "core"
muscles: deep flexors and other trunk muscles that control posture and
are the prime movers of the limbs. Working from the inside out, Pilates
exercises will make you fit and able, stronger and more coordinated for
every activity in your life. Students often report getting taller from
improved posture and lengthening in the spine, more energy in their daily
life, weight loss, fuller breathing, and a greater sense of well-being.
Every exercise in Pilates is a combination of strength,
coordination, attention, and balance. It is more important how you do
the exercise than what you do. Pilates is an approach to movement and
working out that is enjoyable and challenging and delivers real results.
